We’ve added color and we’ve added eight more pages.  With increased advertising and a never-ending stream of material arriving, there was no other choice.  The response to “The John Cooke Fraud Report” from the fraud-fighting industry has gone beyond our wildest expectations.  What began as a dream is now a reality.

It is, however, impossible to expand as fast as the national fraud situation demands.  Central and Eastern states readers call daily.  “When are you printing an edition for us?” they query. We tell them of our projections for spring ‘95.  We tell them that our plans call for the center eight pages to vary by region – not the entire issue.  We explain that most fraud is not bound geographically; what’s happening in California and the west is on its way toward home towns in North Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, wherever.

Staged auto accidents in Los Angeles bear many identical markings to staged auto accidents occurring in Boston.  A workers’ compensation fraud in Seattle looks much the same as a workers’ compensation fraud in Atlanta.  An arson in Honolulu is just as ugly a crime as an arson in Toledo.  So what if the backdrops are different?  The bottom line is that insurance fraud is insurance fraud.

Starting with this issue, we are attempting to present a collection of material within our pages that will be of interest to all geographical areas.  We want the SIU adjuster in Lansing to become more aware of national fraud issues – and we want the risk manager in Miami to find value in our pages as well.  Most of all, we want to be the catalyst that spawns a network which encourages industry professionals to communicate with one another and to share their vast stores of personal knowledge.

In this issue we concentrate on automobile fraud issues.  We offer a special “thank you” to those professionals who have contributed their time and talent to provide an intense look into the ways and means of the auto fraud industry.  Thanks, too, are due to the NICB for their ongoing contributions; when it comes to cars, theft, capping operations, etc., the NICB is usually knee deep in the investigations and its extensive databanks have interfered with many criminal plans.

Please take a few minutes to tell us what you think of our publication.  “The John Cooke Fraud Report” was born as a result of OUR ideas – but its future will be determined by YOUR ideas.
