Welcome Delaware to the growing list of states that arrest folks for committing insurance fraud.
Wilmington resident Frederick Maahs, owner of a construction company, was arrested in Tampa, Florida, as the result of an investigation and request by the Delaware Insurance Fraud Prevention Bureau (DIFPB).
Working in conjunction with the Delaware Fire Marshal’s Office, investigators checked out out leads and insurance claims surrounding a Wilmington house fire that destroyed Maah’s home and business.
In July, 1994, legislation was enacted that created the DIFPB. At the same time, the insurance fraud language was broadened by setting fines and penalties and by instituting a system of mandatory reporting.
The arrest of Maah was the first arrest since the new legislation took effect.
