The Florida Board of Medicine has been cracking down on doctors recently. Dr. Taj Pal Singh Jowhal has had his medical licensed revoked for failing to pay a $10,000 fine levied after he was found to have prescribed drugs without a proper medical examination. He was also charged with 55 counts of insurance fraud.
Dr. Vincente Mompo also lost his license after being charged, along with 11 others, with 252 counts of fraud and conspiracy relating to the filing of false Medicare and Medicaid claims. The 78-year-old Mompo pleaded guilty to state charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and was sentenced to four months in prison.
Dr. George Diaz, another physician charged with Medicaid fraud, has voluntarily surrendered his license to practice psychiatry. The allegations included 45-minute billings for every patient, even though in many cases the actual treatment time was far shorter.
