After almost ten years of no luck at catching up to fugitive David Brian Williams, the FBI took an unusual step and took out a classified ad—in USA Today. It was the fourth time the FBI has ever tried such a step, and going into it, they had a one-in-three ratio of success. In the three previous advertisements, one fugitive was apprehended as a result of the newspaper exposure.
The most recent attempt was aimed at Williams, a former Palm Beach resident wanted on bank fraud charges. Among his crimes were a $14.2 million loan obtained fraudulently from the Frontier Savings and Loan in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and another for $836,358 from Capital Bank in Boca Raton, Florida.
The advertisement in the classified section featured William’s photo and the phrase, “Wanted by the FBI.”
