Hot Tips Counterfeits: What to Look For – Licenses marked “duplicate.”

Expired licenses. Do not accept an expired license as identification.

Uneven surfaces, especially by the picture or the birthdate. This may indicate tampering.

Typeset consistency among the numbers. Pay special attention to the expiration date and the birth date.

Paste-overs. Look for a tiny piece of paper placed over the last digit in the birth date.

State logo. A seal or logo that is incomplete or altered may signal a fake card.

Surface pin holes. Forgers sometimes insert bleach to white out certain aspects of a card.

Reverse side detail. Blurring on the back side may signify a forgery.
