Andrew S. Pitts, according to many, had it all. After graduating from DePaul University Law School in Chicago, Pitt worked as a deputy district attorney and in private practice. He then joined the Justice Department’s Organized Crime Strike Force in Los Angeles, part of the US Attorney’s office. Six years later the Public Integrity Section in Washington began an investigation into charges levied against Pitts, including accepting $166,000 in money and valuables from informants. Pitt, of Agua Dulce, pleaded guilty in June to three felony counts and was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison.
