Staging automobile accidents and filing false medical claims got Gabriel and Amihan Gonzalez tickets to prison and some hefty fines. After pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, the Gonzales brothers were ordered to pay $119,849 (Gabriel) and $109,349 (Amihan) to the defrauded insurance companies and were sent off to begin serving their respective sentences. While the two ran the Rainer Medical Clinic in Seattle from March 1993 to February 1994, they submitted numerous fabricated bills to insurance companies in support of bogus accidents.
Another Seattle fraudster, Miriam Marzan, received a fine of $24,894 and a probation sentence for her part in a similar scam at the Evergreen Medical Clinic during the same time frame. While working as a doctor’s assistant, Marzan falsified records in support of bogus accidents. Her boss, clinic owner George Zari, also indicted in the scam, is now a fugitive.
