The Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration and the National Insurance Crime Bureau have announced that a Prince George’s County Grand Jury returned a 23 count indictment charging six individuals with theft, insurance fraud and conspiracy. These individuals, all residents of Prince George’s County and the Washington, DC area, were involved with a large-scale, staged accident ring which defrauded four major insurance carriers of more that $100,000.
The staged accidents occurred within a six-month period during 1995 and involved five insured vehicles causing damages to ten other automobiles. Insurers defrauded included State Farm, Prudential, Nationwide and the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund.
After an extensive 18 month investigation, the following people were indicted: Earnest Jackson, Timothy Hillie, Lashawn Bland, Irving Hawkins, Ronald Speight and Taprina Jackson.
