Peter Caputo of San Francisco has a rather unique resume. Not only was he a body builder in the 1970s, one year he was actually crowned MR. AMERICA. More recently, however, he was working at the US Mint in San Francisco as a computer operator. While attempting to stop a load of boxed computer paper from falling off a dolly (the mechanical type, we’re sure!), Caputo injured his right shoulder and back. He subsequently filed a claim for workers’ compensation with his employer’s insurer, Fireman’s Fund. Among his injury claims was one about being 100% psychologically disabled because he could no longer work out and be “Superman.” But Superman Caputo was found to be using his cane on the way “to” doctor appointments and discarding it at times when he thought no one was watching. Investigators also discovered an earlier diagnosis of degenerative arthritis in the same shoulder Caputo claimed was injured in the work-related accident. And where is Mr. America now? He’s in jail, serving a sentence for workers’ compensation insurance fraud. Must have been the Kryptonite!
