Mutual of Omaha began taking a special look at medical claims being presented on behalf of employees at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. One clinic, the Moreno Valley Ambulatory Surgical Center, and one doctor, Beverly Hills surgeon Dr. Lee Newman, appeared to treat an unusually high number of MGM employees. Casino waitresses and dealers were heading south on I-15 in alarming numbers. Some top-notch FBI investigative work led to the discovery that the CPT codes being used were d-cupping, oops, deceiving, and employees were really getting breast implants, liposuction and tummy tucks — cosmetic procedures not otherwise covered by the Mutual of Omaha policy.
The recruiter in the scheme, Sophia Dao Stack of Anaheim, has pled guilty to conspiracy. Also awaiting sentencing are Suzi Alter, the clinic owner, and Joan Heubusch, an employee at MGM. More arrests are expected.
