If you look at the upper right hand corner of this issue’s cover, you’ll see it’s Volume 5 and Issue 1. That means this begins our fifth year of publication.
Whodathunkit?
When the premier issue of The John Cooke Fraud Report hit the streets in May, 1994, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Our industry was excited at the thought of a publication covering the business of insurance fraud. At last, a communication vehicle to assist our work force in the investigative process.
When that first issue was published, there were two questions. First and foremost, who the heck was John Cooke? (Where did he live? What was his SIU experience? How tall was he? What was his dog’s name? The gamut…..) Second, and perhaps more important, could we find enough ongoing information about fraud to continue publishing a quality report? The concern here was that there were a limited number of fraud-related topics to cover – and what if we ran out of information to present?
Hah! The criminal community – and the ingrained creativity inherent in the criminal mentality – give each and every one of us the gift of job security. When we catch the cooks at one scheme, they dream up another. When we’re dealing with one scam at our front door, three more are knocking on our back door.
So, who is John Cooke? The answer is “a publisher who will probably never run out of material.”
Not to worry.
