When Delta Dental Plan noticed several unusual billings coming from Beverly Hills DDS Julie Valentine, investigators decided to root out the problem. Wouldn’t chew do the same?
More files were pulled, in hope of filling in the gaps. In some cases, Dr. Valentine shot in bills based on unusual sequences of work. In others, unrelated patients were listed at the same home addresses. Oh, such nerve.
The five participating investigative teams, from Delta, Massachusetts Mutual, The Guardian, Aetna and Best Life, crowned their efforts with the discovery of a pattern of untoothful billing tactics and crossed the bridge to the District Attorney’s office.
“Decayse” went before de judge, and Dr. Valentine pled guilty to five counts of healthcare fraud. Credit is also due to the FBI for their assistance in drilling out the fraud and calling the shots during the investigation. A December sentencing date should cap the matter – and take a bite out of dental fraud.
