Targeting Penske, Ryder and Budget rental companies, Berk County residents Jason Jones, Thomas Oliver and an (as yet) unnamed third participant. using Oliver’s name, rented three trucks. All vehicles had full coverage. Then came the onslaught of claims. Each of the truck rental companies heard about the $5,452 damage done to Jone’s allegedly parked 2000 BMW 323 ci, every one of them involving the same players, the same damage and the same date of loss. But these perps didn’t stop there, they did it again and all three trucks hit the same rented Chevrolet Impala (Avis/Budget) and caused $5,855.76 in damage with a side-swipe. Upping the ante, the Impala’s registration was altered to reflect private ownership by a non-existent person.
Larry, Moe and Curly all got caught. While the actual commission of the crimes only took a few hours, these stooges — according to their degrees of participation (and probably the abilities of their respective attorneys or self-representation) will be splitting up jail time, probation time, thousands of dollars of restitution and fines. The Pennsylvania AG slap, slap, slapped ’em good.
