There’s a new law that will hopefully make computer hackers think twice before they willfully spread a virus. ‘Iltey are now subject to third-degree felony ch<<rge and up to a 15-year prison sentence and even a $15,000 fine. Additionally, the new bill signed into effect on May 26 by Governor Tom Ridge makes the hacker responsible for any damages caused by their actions.
The law also, for the first time, defines a computer virus. The penalty for interfering with a computer system or network or giving out a password or other confidential information about a system is as much as five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
