John Cooke, the little scrap(per) who came rushing headlong into the insurance fraud fighting world in May 1994, is celebrating his second birthday with this issue. Who’d a thought?
What began as a small regional (Western States Edition) publication just two short years ago is now received throughout North America and many other countries around the world. Our insurance fraud coverage has expanded both geographically and topically. Initially reporting only on property and casualty scams, the toddler John soon recognized the overwhelming need in the sister-industries covering life, health/accident and disability insurance. Then, because the insurance fraud world really is a small place, he decided to test the far-off waters and report on the international fraud situation. From halting baby-steps, to sure-footed steps, to runs, to leaps. So much to do, so much to learn.
Psychologists are quick to point out that the largest cumulative amount of human learning takes place during the first 36 months of life. That means that John can/will learn a lot more during the next year. As a rambunctious two-year-old, he needs more input and guidance than the folks at 777 South Main can provide. He needs you—we need you.
Year number three holds promise as the most fascinating yet. John’s original personna, The John Cooke Insurance Fraud Report, will be joined by The John Cooke Financial Fraud Report, in just a few short weeks. And well before the end of the year, Fraud Prevention magazine is scheduled to hit the newsstands with a bang, carrying the message of fighting fraud through communication and education to the heartlands of America, the homes of its people.
The journey thus far has been fascinating. The individuals encountered have been a source of knowledge and delight. Our industry is peppered with some incredible human beings; measured not only by the talent and dedication they bring to their jobs, but by what truly good and decent people they are. To each and every one of you that has graced our pathway these past two years, we offer a heartfelt thank you for being a part of our growth.
We’ve said it before; we’ll say it again. John Cooke was born because of our ideas, but his future is determined by your ideas. So please, keep them coming.
